NEWSLETTER TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS 16.3.2020
On March 16, 2020, the Finnish State Council outlined further measures to address the Coronavirus situation in Finland. These measures are designed to protect the population and to safeguard the functioning of the society and the economy. The policy is valid until April 13, 2020.
The Finnish State Council, in cooperation with the President of the Republic, has stated that the country is experiencing exceptional circumstances due to the coronavirus outbreak.
TUESDAY 17.3. IS A REGULAR DAY OF STUDY AT RIVERIA UNDER THE RULES OF PROCEDURE
Policies affecting Riveria’s operations between March 18 and April 13, 2020
Riveria facilities (including Student restaurants and dormitories) will be closed and classroom instruction in Riveria will be suspended during Wednesday 18.3. – Monday 13.4.2020.
In practice, this means
- no student meals or separate meal allowances are provided to students (Section 100 of the Vocational Training Act 531/2017)
- students cannot reside in the Riveria dormitories as of 18.3.2020
Even in exceptional times, we ensure teaching and guidance to the student. Riveria has the necessary online environments to provide distance education and guidance.
The student participates in a training that leads to a degree or part of a degree according to the Personal Skills Development Plan (HOKS) and the Rules of Procedure. In the education leading to degrees (basic, further and specialist vocational qualifications), preparatory education for vocational studies (VALMA), also in the folk high school and summer university education and other external training, teaching and guidance is provided through distance learning and self-study. The student will receive additional guidance the studies through Wilma on Wednesday 18.3.2020.
In Riveria, work-based learning (training and apprenticeship) is implemented in accordance with workplace guidelines. In working life, learning guidance is usually provided remotely, unless otherwise agreed with the employer. Riveria’s teaching and guidance staff is on duty guiding the learning of the student in accordance with the Rules of Procedure.

The spring gradution ceremony has been cancelled for all the students until 30.6. (starting from 16.3.). The diplomas will be sent from the study office by post to the students’ home addresses. All other certificates will be sent in scanned form either by email or Wilma, and if necessary by regular mail.
Travel bans until further notice
- Riveria staff and students will be subject to an indefinite ban for travelling abroad from March 12, 2o2o to prevent coronavirus infections.
- Riveria international mobility to and from Finland (students and faculty) have been suspended as of March 12, 2020 to prevent coronavirus infections.
- Riveria staff will not physically participate in off-site and job-related seminars from March 12, 2020, until further notice to prevent coronavirus infections. All unnecessary travel will be avoided.
Returning from abroad
Students and faculty returning from abroad don’t take part in contact teaching for two weeks and contact the group coach for further instructions. Workplace learning (training and apprenticeship) follows workplace guidelines. Otherwise, based on the guidelines updated by Siun sote (www.siunsote.fi/korona).
Customer work and visitors
Welfare services provided to external customers are suspended as of 16.3. until further notice. The production of other works for clients will be carried out normally.
